Oct. 24, 2026: Faith That Moves From Hearing to Doing

BIG IDEA:  A life sent by Jesus will strive to back up words with action.  

James 1:22-25 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”

Titus 2:7-8 “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.”

It is possible to hear truth, agree with truth, and even talk about truth without ever allowing truth to change the way we live. James warns believers not to be hearers of the word only, deceiving themselves. Genuine faith does not stop at listening. It responds with obedience. A life sent by Jesus strives to back up words with action, not to earn God’s approval, but because the heart has truly been changed by Him. Integrity grows when our beliefs become visible in our behavior. The world does not need Christians who simply know the right answers. It needs followers of Jesus whose lives display the goodness, humility, and truth of the One they claim to follow.

Reflection Question: Where has God been calling you to move from simply knowing what is right to actually doing what is right?

Practical Application: Choose one specific act of obedience today that puts your faith into action. It could be apologizing, serving someone quietly, telling the truth, forgiving, giving generously, or following through on something God has already asked of you. Let your actions agree with your words.
