Sept. 9, 2026: The Honest Reckoning
This week’s BIG IDEA: 7 truths we need to be SENT and not STUCK. Death is certain. God is in charge. He is holy. We are broken. God offers grace. God speaks. God sends.
Isaiah 6:5
“And I said: 'Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!'”
1 John 1:8
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
When Isaiah saw the Lord in His full holiness, he did not celebrate. He did not raise his hand and volunteer. He collapsed under the weight of his own condition. "Woe is me," he cried, "for I am lost." Isaiah knew that the only way that he would ever connect to this God was if he got a lot of help. He was unworthy. He was unclean. He was impure. He was RUINED.
The closer we draw to God, the more clearly we see ourselves. This is not a cruel trick. It is a mercy. God didn’t appear to Isaiah to make him feel bad. God appeared to Isaiah to show him that even though Isaiah was unworthy, God would make a way for them to connect.
1 John 1:8 is plain: those who claim to have no sin deceive themselves. The truth is not in them. But 2 Corinthians 12:9 reveals what God does with that brokenness. His power is made perfect in weakness. The broken man is exactly the man God can use.
Personal Reflection:
Is there an area of your life where pride has kept you from honest acknowledgment of your own brokenness before God? What would it look like to stop carrying that weight alone?
Practical Application:
Confess one specific area of weakness to God today in plain language. Do not dress it up. Then receive 2 Corinthians 12:9 as a direct promise spoken over that exact weakness.
