Oct. 3, 2026: Taking Every Thought Captive

Big Idea: To live a SENT life, you must know the enemy, know yourself, and depend on God.

Memory Verse for the Week:
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

Though believers walk in the flesh, they do not wage war according to the flesh. God has given divine weapons to destroy strongholds, arguments, and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ.

Colossians 2:13-15
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame by triumphing over them in him.”

Through the cross, Jesus forgave our sins, canceled the record of debt against us, disarmed the rulers and authorities, and put them to open shame by triumphing over them.
Not every battle begins with an action. Many battles begin with a thought. The enemy knows that if he can shape the way you think, he can influence the way you live. Lies become strongholds when they go unchallenged. Fear, shame, pride, bitterness, lust, insecurity, and self-reliance often begin as thoughts you entertain instead of surrender.
But God has not left you powerless in your mind. Paul reminds us that the weapons of our warfare are not worldly. They are divinely powerful. Through Christ, you can identify lies, reject arguments that rise against God’s truth, and bring your thoughts under the authority of Jesus.

The enemy has been disarmed by the cross, but he still lies like he has authority. He still accuses like your debt remains unpaid. He still tempts like sin is your master. But Jesus has already triumphed. The cross canceled your debt, exposed the enemy’s defeat, and gave you the power to walk in truth.

To live a sent life, you must not only guard your behavior. You must guard your mind. A surrendered mind becomes a battlefield where Jesus reigns.

Reflection:
What recurring thought, lie, or accusation have you allowed to shape your emotions or decisions? How does the finished work of Jesus on the cross speak truth against that lie?

Practical Application:
Identify one thought this week that does not agree with God’s Word. Write it down, then write a Scripture-based truth beside it. Each time that thought returns, reject it out loud and replace it with the truth of Christ.
