Oct. 21, 2026: The Honesty Hypocrisy Demands of Us

BIG IDEA:  A life sent by Jesus will strive to back up words with action.

Romans 7:15-19 “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.”

1 Peter 2:1 “So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.”
The Apostle Paul was one of the greatest followers of Jesus who ever lived, and yet he openly confessed the war raging inside him between what he wanted to do and what he actually did. This confession is not a sign of weakness -- it is a sign of profound spiritual honesty. Every one of us carries some measure of inconsistency between our words and our actions. The answer is not to excuse it or ignore it, but to name it honestly before God and ask for His grace. Keep an open line of confession with the Lord. Hypocrisy thrives in the dark. And if kept in the dark, it can destroy you as it continues to grow.  Honesty before God is the first step toward genuine change.

Reflection Question: Is there a specific area of inconsistency in your life that you have been reluctant to bring honestly before God?

Practical Application: Write down one area where your actions have not matched your words. Confess it specifically to God today and ask Him for both the grace to receive forgiveness and the strength to grow.

MEMORY VERSE for the Week:
Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.”
