Oct. 15, 2026: No Shame in Jesus

BIG IDEA: “A truly sent life is built around the cornerstone of the person of Jesus Christ.”

MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:
1 Peter 2:6  “For it stands in Scripture: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’”

John 8:10-11
“Jesus stood up and said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.’”

Romans 10:11
“For the Scripture says, 'Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.'”

This week’s message pointed to the story of the woman caught in adultery.  (Read John 7:53-8:11)  Religious leaders brought her before Jesus, not because they cared about her soul, but because they wanted to trap Him. They exposed her publicly and used her failure as a weapon. But Jesus refused to join their shame. He told them, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”

Jesus was both full of grace and serious about sin. He did not condemn the woman, but He also told her, “Go, and sin no more.” This shows us Christ's heart. He does not minimize sin, but He also does not crush sinners who come to Him. The sermon says, “One of the best things about Jesus is that He will never shame you. He just wants to forgive you.”

Some people avoid God because they assume He only wants to shame them. That’s fake news. But Jesus invites sinners to come close, receive mercy, and be changed. Shame says, “You are too far gone.” Jesus says, “You can be forgiven.” Shame says, “This is who you are forever.” Jesus says, “Go, and sin no more.”

Action Step: Confess one sin honestly to Jesus today. Receive His forgiveness, and take one practical step to turn away from that sin.
