Big Idea: God desires for us to live SENT with our GREATER PURPOSE, while the world desires for us to be STUCK on ourselves.

When People Become Their Own Moral Standard.

Read: Isaiah 3

Key Verse:  “For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.” — Isaiah 3:8

Devotional:
Isaiah 3 shows what happens when a society rejects God’s truth and becomes its own moral standard.

Judah had stumbled because their speech and deeds were against the Lord. They were not just sinning in secret. Isaiah says their faces bore witness against them. They proclaimed their sin like Sodom. They did not hide it.

They paraded their sin.

That is defiance. Disobedience says, “I know what God says, but I want to do something else.” Ignorance says, “I should have known, but I refused to pay attention.” Defiance says, “I will rewrite the sign. I will redefine truth. I will decide good and evil for myself.”

This is where moral decline always leads. God is removed. Sin is celebrated. Disaster becomes the consequence.

When people lose God as their moral reference point, everything becomes unstable. Good and evil get redefined. Truth becomes personal preference. Justice becomes whatever benefits my tribe. One person’s evil becomes another person’s justice.

Isaiah is showing us that this kind of decline does not just affect individuals. It affects families, leaders, cities, nations, and the next generation.

But this chapter is not given so we can shake our heads at “those people.” It is given so we can examine ourselves.

Where have I made myself my own moral agent? Where have I said, “My truth” above God’s truth? Where have I wanted the fashionable, tweetable Jesus but not the actual biblical Jesus?

God does not call us to be stuck in cultural confusion. He calls us to be sent with conviction, humility, repentance, and truth.

• Where am I tempted to put “my truth” above God’s truth?
• Are my speech and deeds aligned with the Lord?
• Do I grieve sin, excuse sin, or celebrate sin?
