Big Idea: God desires for us to live SENT with our GREATER PURPOSE, while the world desires for us to be STUCK on ourselves.

When God Looks for Fruit

Read: Isaiah 5

Key Verse:  “He looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry!” — Isaiah 5:7

Devotional:
Isaiah 5 is a song about a vineyard.

God planted His people like a vineyard. He gave them everything they needed. He cleared the stones. He planted choice vines. He built a watchtower. He made a wine vat. In other words, God gave His people blessing, protection, purpose, and opportunity.

Then He looked for fruit.

But instead of good grapes, the vineyard produced wild grapes. Instead of justice, there was bloodshed. Instead of righteousness, there was an outcry.

This is a serious warning.

God does not bless us so we can become stuck on ourselves. He blesses us so our lives produce fruit for His Kingdom. If we receive God’s goodness but reject God’s purpose, we become like Judah — privileged, religious, comfortable, and spiritually rotten.

Isaiah 5 also gives a list of woes. The people are greedy. They chase pleasure. They mock God’s judgment. They call evil good and good evil. They are wise in their own eyes.
That sounds painfully familiar.

One of the clearest signs of moral decline is when a culture loses the ability to tell the difference between good and evil. But Isaiah says this is not progress. Trying to progress while morally declining is not the same thing. True progress can draw us closer to God’s Kingdom. Moral decline leads to destruction.

God is looking for fruit in us too.

Not just church attendance.
Not just religious language.
Not just outward success.
Not just comfort and blessing.

He is looking for repentance, justice, righteousness, humility, obedience, compassion, holiness, and surrender.

He is looking for people who are not stuck on themselves but sent with His greater purpose.

• What fruit is God finding in my life right now?
• Have I used God’s blessings for myself or for His purpose?
• Where am I tempted to call evil good or good evil?
