Sept. 17, 2026: The Condition of Others

BIG IDEA: Living SENT means taking the story of God to people who desperately need rescue and need to hear God’s Good News.  

Ephesians 2:12
“Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.”

Philippians 2:3-4
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Ephesians 2:12 describes the condition of every person who has not yet encountered the grace of God: separated, without hope, and without God in the world. These are not mild inconveniences. They are the deepest forms of human poverty.

Philippians 2 calls us to consider the interests of others as more important than our own. Living sent is not primarily about what it does for you, though it does give your life purpose and meaning. At its core, it is about the person sitting in hopelessness who has not yet heard that rescue is available. Selflessness is not a spiritual bonus. It is the very heartbeat of a sent life.

Reflection:
When you think about living sent, are your motivations primarily about your own growth and fulfillment, or are they genuinely shaped by concern for others?

Application:
Spend time today praying specifically for someone you know who is living without hope or without God. Let their condition move you toward action rather than comfort.
