Big Idea: God desires for us to live SENT with our GREATER PURPOSE, while the world desires for us to be STUCK on ourselves.

Hope in the Middle of the Mess

Read: Isaiah 4

Key Verse:  “When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem…” — Isaiah 4:4

Devotional:
After the warnings of Isaiah 1–3, Isaiah 4 gives us hope.

The people are sinful. The culture is crumbling. The leadership is failing. The nation is stuck. But God is not done.

Isaiah speaks of “the Branch of the Lord.” This is a preview of the coming Savior. In the middle of judgment, God promises cleansing. In the middle of disaster, God promises restoration. In the middle of rebellion, God promises a holy remnant.

This is the pattern we have seen all through the Bible.

Adam and Eve sin — but God promises a way of escape.
Abraham is called — and God provides the sacrifice.
Joseph is rejected — but becomes a savior for his family.
The Passover lamb dies — and the people are covered by the blood.
Joshua leads the people into promise — and his name points us to Jesus.
David is an unlikely king — and his line points us to Christ.
Isaiah now tells us again: salvation is found only in God.

Isaiah’s name means “The Lord has saved.” And Isaiah 4 reminds us that God’s plan has always been rescue, cleansing, and redemption.

The hope for Judah was not better politics, more money, stronger armies, or empty religion. The hope for Judah was the cleansing work of God.

The same is true for us.

The solution to being stuck is not self-improvement. It is surrender. It is being washed. It is receiving grace. It is letting God cleanse what we cannot clean.

And once God cleanses us, He sends us.

We are not cleansed so we can stay comfortable. We are cleansed so we can live for His greater purpose.

• Where do I need God to wash and cleanse me?
• Do I believe God can bring hope in the middle of my mess?
• How does the promise of Jesus change how I see judgment and mercy?
