Sept. 23, 2026: Standing Firm in Faith

BIG IDEA: The world preaches a tolerance of stuckness, but God’s kindness offers us freedom through Jesus.

Isaiah 7:4-7:9
“And say to him, ‘Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah. Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you, saying, “Let us go up against Judah and terrify it, and let us conquer it for ourselves, and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,” thus says the Lord GOD: “‘It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass. For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered from being a people. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.’”

Hebrews 11:1-3
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”

When Ahaz learned that Israel and Syria were advancing against Judah, the entire nation trembled like trees in a windstorm. Fear is a powerful force. It can paralyze leaders, silence the faithful, and drive people into compromises they would never otherwise make.
 
God sent Isaiah with a direct word: be careful, be quiet, do not fear. And then came the warning that cuts to the heart of the matter. If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all. Faith is not a backup plan. It is the foundation.  Faith is everything to us as Believers.  When cultural pressure mounts and confusion increases, the person without a firm faith in God has nothing solid left to stand on.

Personal Reflection:
What fears are currently threatening to move you away from faithful obedience? Are you standing on your faith or looking for a human solution to a spiritual problem?

Practical Application:
Memorize Isaiah 7:9 this week. Write it on a card and place it somewhere you will see it when fear or anxiety rises. Let it serve as a daily reminder that your firmness in life begins with your firmness in faith.
