Oct. 28, 2026: The Strength Found in Stillness

BIG IDEA:  A SENT LIFE is driven by the POWER and the COMPASSION of our LOVING GOD.

VERSE OF THE WEEK Isaiah 30:15   “This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength”

Isaiah 30:15-18
“For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift. A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill. Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.”

Psalm 46:1-11
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah”

Isaiah 30:15 is one of the most countercultural verses in all of Scripture. In the middle of a national crisis, with an empire marching toward Jerusalem, God told His people that their salvation and their strength were found in repentance, rest, quietness, and trust.

Not in panic.
Not in control.
Not in political maneuvering.
Not in military alliance.
Not in frantic activity.

Their strength would be found in returning to God and resting in Him.

Psalm 46:10 echoes this same truth, calling us to be still and know that He is God. This does not mean passivity. Hezekiah fortified his city walls and secured a water supply. He did what he could do. But the foundation of his strength was meant to be God, not his own preparations.

The same is true for us. Do the work in front of you. Develop your skills. Make wise decisions. Take responsibility. But do not confuse preparation with salvation. You can be active without being anxious. You can be responsible without being controlling. You can work faithfully while still placing the outcome entirely in God’s hands.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life are you striving and straining when God may be calling you to repent, rest, and trust?

Practical Application:
Set aside fifteen minutes today in complete silence. No phone, no music, no noise. Simply be still before God and allow Him to speak. Write down anything that surfaces during that time.
