Sept. 21, 2026: Light in the Darkness

BIG IDEA: The world preaches a tolerance of stuckness, but God’s kindness offers us freedom through Jesus.

Isaiah 9:1-2
“But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”

John 8:12
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”

September has shown us how crazy the world has been over the last two years.  Evil is out there and not even hiding anymore.  The world around us can feel overwhelming. Violence, confusion, and moral disorder are not new phenomena.
 
The people of Judah experienced the same disorientation under King Ahaz. Yet into that darkness, God spoke a word of hope. Isaiah described a people walking in deep darkness who would one day see a great light. That light was not a philosophy or a program. It was a person. Jesus declared himself the light of the world, promising that those who follow him will not walk in darkness. Whatever confusion surrounds you today, the light of Christ is not diminished by it. Walk toward him.

Personal Reflection:
Where in your life are you currently experiencing confusion or spiritual darkness? Are you walking toward the light of Christ or away from it?

Practical Application:
Identify one area of your daily routine where you have allowed cultural noise to drown out the voice of God. Commit today to replacing fifteen minutes of media consumption with prayer or Scripture reading.
