Oct. 6, 2026: Judgment Is a Wake-Up Call

Big Idea: God wants to send us with a peace that the world cannot comprehend.

Memory Verse — Isaiah 26:3 ESV
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Isaiah 24:1–3
“Behold, the LORD will empty the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered; for the LORD has spoken this word.”

Revelation 8:7–11
“The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up. The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had been made bitter.”

Isaiah 24 gives a sobering picture of judgment. The earth is emptied, shaken, and devastated. Isaiah looks forward to a day when God will judge the world because of sin, rebellion, and rejection of Him.

This kind of passage can be uncomfortable. But biblical judgment is not meant to make us casually curious about the end times. It is meant to wake us up.  God’s warnings are merciful. He tells us the truth before it is too late. Judgment reminds us that this world is not ultimate. The things we often invest in most — possessions, status, comfort, control — will not last forever.

This week’s message reminds us that our main investment should be God and people. Everything else will fade. But God’s kingdom is eternal, and people will spend eternity somewhere.

The coming judgment should not lead believers to panic. It should lead us to peace, urgency, and faithfulness. We know the Judge. We know His mercy. And we know the message of salvation that the world desperately needs.

Reflection Questions
  • What temporary things are you tempted to treat as permanent?
  • How does the reality of judgment change the way you view your priorities?
  • Who in your life needs to hear the hope of Jesus?
