Sept. 29, 2026: Knowing Your Enemy

Big Idea: To live a SENT life, you must know the enemy, know yourself, and depend on God.

Memory Verse for the Week:

Isaiah 14:12-15
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.”

The passage describes the pride and fall of the one referred to as the Day Star, who declared five "I will" statements in his attempt to exalt himself above God. 1 Peter 5:8 -- Believers are urged to be sober-minded and watchful because their adversary prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.

Satan is not a cartoon character in a red suit. He is not a myth. He is a real, intelligent, and highly motivated adversary who was once the most brilliant and beautiful created being. His downfall was not stupidity. It was pride. Five times in Isaiah 14, he declared, "I will," putting his own desires above God's will. That same spirit of self-exaltation is what he plants in the hearts of people today. He is not fighting you with brute force alone. He is fighting you with ideas, desires, and subtle redirections away from God. Knowing this is not meant to frighten you. It is meant to sharpen you. A soldier who underestimates the enemy is
already losing.

In what areas of your life have you underestimated the influence of the enemy? Where have you dismissed spiritual warfare as something that does not apply to your everyday routine?'

Practical Application:
Study the names of Satan listed in Scripture this week -- adversary, accuser, tempter, deceiver. For each name, identify one specific strategy the enemy uses against you personally and one scriptural truth that counters it.
